For a fence to effectively work an Earth Spike needs to be installed to complete the Energizer circuit and make sure the Animal receives its "Shock". General Energizer requirements are a minimum of 3 earth spikes at the energizer and then in urban areas one every 30m and rural areas one every 100m. On a pet fence with a low power energizer one will suffice.
